Check a BYO router before switching
Use this checklist while your old service still works. It is easier to confirm compatibility before the changeover.
Identify the exact model
Read the make, model and hardware version from the label. Check whether your current provider expects it back and whether it allows you to change the internet settings. A Wi-Fi access point, mesh satellite or DSL-only modem may have Ethernet sockets without being able to act as your fibre router.
Check the manufacturer’s manual
Look for Ethernet WAN support, the speeds of the WAN and LAN sockets, and the available connection methods. If Riley confirms your service requires VLAN tagging, check that the router can tag the internet connection. Being able to create a guest Wi-Fi network does not establish VLAN support on the WAN.
Choose before activation
Send the model to Riley for the service compatibility check. BYO has a $50 service setup fee and you handle router setup and Wi-Fi support. If you would rather have a configured device with router help, the GWN7062E costs $129 once with standard setup included. Prices include GST. Delivery is quoted separately.
