What fibre brings into your home
Follow the cable from the wall to your devices. Knowing which box does which job makes it easier to describe a fault.
From the street to the fibre box
The local fibre company brings an optical cable into the property. Inside, the ONT turns that optical connection into an Ethernet handoff. You may also see a small box outside where the cable enters. The outside box has no customer Wi-Fi controls.
From the fibre box to Wi-Fi
An Ethernet cable runs from the active ONT socket to the router. The router then shares the connection with phones over Wi-Fi and with wired devices over its LAN sockets. Joining Wi-Fi proves the phone can reach the router. Opening a new web page also tests the internet path beyond it.
Tell Riley which part stopped
If your Wi-Fi name disappears, start at the router. If the name is visible but all devices lose internet and the ONT shows an optical alarm, record its light labels and contact Riley. If only a distant bedroom is slow, test beside the router before moving cables.
