Prepare for a fibre installation
Use this if Riley confirms your property needs new fibre work. The local fibre company will confirm the actual appointments and what needs doing.
Before the visit
Identify where the cable could enter and where a powered ONT could sit indoors. Choose somewhere accessible so a technician can reach it later. Tell Riley about shared access, a rental, an apartment manager or gates that need unlocking. Confirm who can approve work at the property.
Walk the proposed route
Ask the technician to show you the outside route, any drilling and the proposed ONT position before work starts. Explain which rooms need good Wi-Fi. The router can be separated from the ONT by Ethernet if the fibre entry point is a poor location for wireless coverage. Ask for any additional costs or work in writing.
Before switching services
Check which ONT port to use, the activation date and how you will receive the router. If a telephone, monitored alarm or medical device depends on the old service, contact its provider for a compatibility and testing plan before switching. Keep a way to call for assistance during changeover.
